The bark is furrowed or fibrous and dark reddish orange to dark gray in color. The leaves are spaced evenly along the stem in twos. The flowers are formed on long shoots and lack petals. They are unisexual and dark orange-red in color. Broom-Crowberry is found primarily in the eastern US.
