True mountain-mahogany is a deciduous shrub or small tree growing up to 20 feet tall. Leaves are simple, alternate, and roundish and display tiny red and yellow trumpet flowers. In the U.S., mountain mahogany is found in the Rocky Mountains and in the mountains of Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. Due to the high nutritional value of this plant's foliage, it is consumed by a variety of mountain wildlife.
