This species is an aromatic tree in the Cupressaceae family. It's characterized by its tapering, irregularly angled trunk and narrow, columnar crown that becomes open and irregular. The bark is light or reddish-brown in color and is thick and fiberous. The twigs have many branches with wedge-shaped joints that are longer than broad. They are composed of scalelike leaves that are evergreen and shiny. Incense cedar can grow up to 80 feet tall. This tree is mainly found on the west coast, and is prominent in California and Oregon. The soft wood is commonly used to make wooden pencils. Since Insense cedar resistant to decay and exposure to weather, it's useful for woodworking projects.
