Buffalo grass is a popular lawn grass that grows between 4 to 8 inches tall. Each perennial plant is either all-male or all-female. Only the male plants produce the pollen. The blades are flat and rolled in the bud. In the wild, this grass is most often found growing in mats or clumps in well-drained prairies. They usually bloom in July or August exposing light green flowers. Buffalo grass is an important wildlife forage. The grass is a nutritious and tasty food for a wide host of animals.
