Sugarcane is a tall grass which can grow to 15' tall. The stems are woody but when crushed, yield a juice rich in sugar. Sugarcane is grown in Louisiana and southern Florida as well as Hawaii. Sugarcane provides the raw materials for processed sugar that's used in granulated and brown sugar as a sweetener. The dried canes make a wonderful mulching material and are sold for that purpose.
