Golden heather requires moist, sandy, acidic soil to grow well. It is found in the eastern parts of North America. It is a twiggy, moundlike evergreen shrub with supple, green, scalelike leaves covered with a fine down. Yellow flowers, borne along the length of the twigs, appear in May and June.
