This plant is native to West Indies and Mexico and is a vigorous perennial, growing up to 8 feet tall. The leaves of this shrub are congested toward the tips of the branches. This shrub grows best in dry soils and climates. The seeds are wind-dispersed. The juice from the stems of the leaves has often been used to treat insect bites.
